Scottish Football Museum's collections recognised as being 'nationally significant'.

Douglas Connell, Chair of the Recognition Scheme, visited Hampden Park to acknowledge the significance of the collections held by the Scottish Football Museum. The Recognition Scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and run by Museums Galleries Scotland and recognises collections held by museums around Scotland which are nationally significant. The Scottish Football Museum was one of only three institutions to receive the accolade in 2009. At the press launch Mr Connell handed over the Recognition plaque to Robert Craig, Chair of the Scottish Football Museum. In reply Mr Craig stated,
"Football has an unique place in the life of the nation and this award recognises the national and international importance of the Museum's collections. I am delighted for the Museum and also for the Scottish Football Association whose continued support has enabled the Museum to develop as a major attraction for everyone interested in football."
The award is the latest in a string of achievements for the Scottish Football Museum which includes becoming the first museum in Glasgow to be awarded Visit Scotland's prestigious Five Star status (2005) and being accredited with Museums Libraries Archives as a 'non government funded national museum' (2008).
